Statewide and Local Resources
Better Business Bureau (www.dayton.bbb.org) offers an accreditation through its local Charitable Advisory Service, which provides comprehensive information about Greater Dayton charities. The information your BBB provides includes summaries of the organizations' programs, governance, fundraising practices and finances, as well as other valuable information to help inform prospective donors. Transparency is an important component when approaching funders. BBB Charity Accreditation enables participating organizations to assure their donors they are operating responsibly. Dayton Metro Library (www.daytonmetrolibrary.org/non-profits-a-grants) provides information and other resources for nonprofit organizations regarding fundraising, grant writing and nonprofit management. The Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations (www.oano.org) provides leadership, education and advocacy to enhance the ability of Ohio's nonprofit organizations to serve their communities. OANO carries out its mission by serving as a voice on public policy issues, providing training seminars on nonprofit management, securing sample policies and procedures for member organizations, offering member savings and group purchasing programs and providing one-on-one technical assistance to members.

Association of Fundraising Professionals (www.afpnet.org) a professional membership organization representing U.S., Canadian and Mexican fundraising professionals, who work to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs. BoardSource (www.boardsource.org) a resource for practical information, tools and best practices, training and leadership development for board members of not-for-profit organizations worldwide Center for Nonprofits & Philanthropy at the Urban Institute (www.urban.org/center/cnp/index.cfm) provides research information regarding the role and impact of not-for-profit organizations and philanthropy in democratic societies. A major component of the Center is the National Center for Charitable Statistics (http://nccs.urban.org).
