Current and Historical Accomplishments

Over the years, the Foundation has quietly worked to make things happen in the multi-county region. Through our support and efforts to convene other individuals and resources, The Dayton Foundation has made a significant impact in our community.

Significant accomplishments include:

• establishing the African-American Community Fund as a national model of a philanthropic vehicle to help African-Americans tackle issues that are important in their community;
The Job Center• forging partnerships with local agencies to address the issue of self-sufficiency in our community, ultimately creating The Job Center, the nation's largest one-stop employment and training center. When it opened in 1997, it was considered The Dayton Foundation's largest undertaking to rally Dayton toward the solution of a community problem. Today the Center has been internationally recognized for its ability to bring employers, educators and social service agencies together to help meet the needs of individuals seeking employment. The Center serves over half a million individuals each year;
• providing leadership and Foundation assets to back the building of The Job Center, as well as the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, charter schools and other community leadership initiatives; and
• launching a three-year study that led to the establishment of The Disability Foundation, Inc., a supporting organization under the umbrella of The Dayton Foundation. The Disability Foundation operates The Ohio Community Pooled Trust, which offers a planning option that provides supplemental services for individuals with disabilities without jeopardizing their governmental benefits. One of only two such programs in the United States, The Disability Foundation is helping individuals with disabilities to experience the joys of life.
GOALS FOR THE FUTURE
As The Dayton Foundation looks to the future, the Governing Board and staff are actively engaged in the strategic planning process to ensure we fulfill our mission with increasingly greater impact in the years ahead.

By responding to the needs of the Foundation’s donors, not-for-profit partners and professional advisors, developing new service options to assist constituents, growing overall community charitable assets and legacy commitments, and providing community leadership in direct partnership with local organizations, the Foundation is at work to help our region be better positioned to face the challenges that lie ahead for our region.
